Here is some information about exams, courses, classes and tutor groups, which I hope will be of interest to home educating families. I have mainly focused on services provided by home educators for home educators.

Access Arrangements at Faregos
Access arrangements are for students who because of medical or learning difficulties need help such as extra time to sit exams. To obtain access arrangements the exam centre must paint a picture of need to JCQ or to the awarding body (exam board).
A picture of need must be built up from the candidate’s “normal way of working” as well as any additional supporting evidence in the form of a specialist report, medical diagnosis, statement of SEN or EHCP.
Some parents spend £500 on a long report which may not have the correct information. Please note that you need a very specific type of proof for exams, not just for example a report saying your child has dyslexia.
Faregos Exam Centre deals with access arrangements in two ways.
1/ Candidates who would be at least in Y9 if they were at school and who ALREADY have written evidence of need are requested to sign up for an assessment session at Faregos with a qualified assessor. The first assessment session (for exams in Summer 2017) will take place in late September 2016. Please contact head@faregos.org
2/ Candidates starting from scratch who don’t have written evidence are offered low cost preliminary screening, to see if it is worth parents committing to pay the full assessment fee. The first preliminary screening session will take place in October 2016. Please contact head@faregos.org
