Free Courses for Home Educated 15 year olds at South Essex College

NEW FOR 2018: South Essex College is offering free 1 year AQA English and Maths GCSE courses (or Functional Skills) for home ed 15-16 year olds (Y11) with the added opportunity for 2 hour taster sessions in different vocational subjects throughout the year.

Classes will be in Southend Thurrock and Basildon, but the college will also take students who live outside these areas.

Interested applicants should contact the college as soon as possible with a view to obtaining a place for the current academic year.


There will be a BKSB online Maths & English diagnostic assessment to help the course tutors understand the level the student is working at.

Students working below GCSE level can do Edexcel Functional Skills or Gateway Certificate in Progression.

In Thurrock classes will run Monday Tuesday Wednesday, in Basildon on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, and in Southend on Wednesday Thursay Friday.

The college hopes where possible that students will do both the English and the Maths.

The college can support with access arrangements for exams.
