Local Area SEND Inspection Ofsted 2016

Beginning in May 2016, over the next 5 years all “local areas” (not the same as local authorities) will be visited by 2 Ofsted inspectors and 1 CQC inspector.

The inspectors will be looking at how local areas support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes.

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2016: The main way for parents to give feedback is via a webinar which is announced in the week preceding the visit. An example of webinar information is here. Leicester Home Education Policy

Leicester City Council is considering whether it needs to make changes to its Elective Home Education Policy and has asked for comments by April 29th 2016. It is important to note that the council hasn’t produced a new draft, rather it is asking for comments on the current Policy. Continue reading

Outstanding Ofsted for the Tri-borough

At the end of March 2016 Ofsted published separate inspection reports for the tri-borough authorities of  Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham.

Westminster and Kensington were rated “outstanding” while Hammersmith was rated “good.” These were  the first “outstanding” verdicts since the new Single Inspection Framework (SIF) was introduced, which led one Director of Children’s Services to say “now we know what Outstanding is” Continue reading
